Up the Creek with a Paddle is an 8 week learn to kayak programme offered to teenagers engaged with local Mental Health services. Participants must be 16 or over to take part. The benefits of engaging in physical activity outdoors are numerous and kayaking has a number of physical and mental health benefits. Participants will learn to kayak, strengthen their core and cardiovascular fitness, and have a skill to take with them on completion of the programme. Exercising outdoors has been shown to have a positive impact on anxiety, depression and many other mental health difficulties and you will also get to see our beautiful city from a different perspective while kayaking on the River Shannon.
All equipment is provided, and the programme is delivered by professional kayaking instructors. Two person kayaks can be provided should a parent wish to accompany a teenager initially.
This programme is run in the spring/summer season.
