Schools Marathon Challenge

Join hundreds of others around the world who take part in the yearly Schools Marathon Challenge each September/October!

The World Marathon Challenge is a relay event for first year school teams who compete against other teams from all over the world. The teams cover a full marathon distance 26.2 miles (42.195km), whilst attempting to beat the world marathon record currently held by a Kenyan athlete at 2:01:39. Results are published in a global league table to create a thrilling competition.

The race is held in UL Sport Athletics Track and the team formation is below:

  • Each team must consist of 30 participants
  • Each team (if mixed) must include equal numbers of girls and boys
  • The runners should be aged between 11 and 13 on the day of the event.
  • Each runner will be required to run 200m sections seven times in total in relay format.
  • Start time is 10.30 am. All competitors should be at the venue at least 30 minutes prior to the start.

There are only 8 places available in this event and they are given on a first come first serve basis.
