Women on Wheels (WOW) is a 6-12 week outdoor cycling programme that has been run by LSP for 5+ years. It has so far taken place in 3 locations across Limerick- University of Limerick, Newcastlewest and Rathkeale.
This programme is suitable for all abilities. However, it is essential that you have a road worthy bike with working brakes and a helmet. WOW takes place one evening per week, and each session is generally about 1.5 hours in length. The aim of these sessions is to improve participants cycling skills e.g. gearing/safe cycling and to increase their knowledge and confidence when cycling in groups and on the road.
This programme is led by trained road captains who won the Federation of Irish Sport Volunteers Awards last year in recognition for their time, commitment and value added to this programme.
These captains have all the experience and expertise to help any beginner cyclists improve. Groups will generally be split if/when needs be, so that there is an appropriate group for all women to slot into. This ensures that this programme is suitable for all levels and abilities. Road captains will accompany the group at all times (front, middle, end). It is our priority that routes are safe and cycle lanes are used whenever possible. There is usually an end of programme event that the participants can work towards e.g. Tour De Burren 50mk Cycle.
This programme runs at two different stages each year between August- October, and April- June.
