National Disability in Sport Week

Limerick Sports Partnership is proud to mark National Disability in Sport Week, taking place from Monday, December 1st to Sunday, December 7th, as part of Sport Ireland’s Disability in Sport Week 2025. This year’s national theme — “Celebrating Ability” / “Ag Ceiliúradh Cumas” — focuses on recognising the achievements, leadership, and contributions of people with disabilities at every level of sport.

We are honoured to launch the week by highlighting Limerick’s own Róisín Ní Ríain, Paralympian and World Para Swimming Champion, whose performances and advocacy continue to inspire athletes and communities across Ireland. Róisín embodies the spirit of the week as we celebrate ability, champion inclusion, and push for Equal Access, Equal Voices, and Equal Futures for everyone in sport.

Throughout the week, Limerick Sports Partnership will share local stories and highlight initiatives that support participation, leadership, and involvement across all levels of sport, especially from grassroots programmes that Limerick Sports Partnership delivers on an ongoing basis.

National Disability in Sport Week aims to increase visibility for people with disabilities in sport and to raise awareness of the ongoing work needed to build a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable sporting culture.

Join us from December 1st–7th as we celebrate ability, uplift local voices, and work together toward a future where everyone in Limerick—and Ireland—can thrive in sport.

Coaching Webinar Tuesday, December 2nd at 8pm:

On Tuesday December 2nd, join Sport Ireland at 8pm for a practical conversation on coaching athletes with disabilities. This session will show how inclusion isn’t a huge overhaul – it’s what great coaches already do every day: adapt to the person in front of them.

The panel will share simple, effective coaching adjustments, athlete-centred approaches, and real examples of how small changes can open big opportunities. They will highlight the brilliant work happening across Irish sport and how coaches can better support para-athletes in their own clubs and pathways. Featuring: Treacy Percy (VIP Hub, Laois Local Sports Partnership), Cliona Horan & Alan Dineen (Paralympics Ireland), Mark Barry (Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) / National Rehab Hospital), Ciarán Murphy (Sport Ireland)
