Active Cities

Sport Ireland’s Active Cities project, is funded by the dormant accounts fund & invests in sport and physical activity initiatives in Ireland’s five largest cities – Limerick, Dublin, Waterford, Cork and Galway, with the aim of creating, maintaining and increasing the numbers of citizens, regardless of age and ability, participating in sport and physical activity in their city.

Limerick Sports Partnership is one of eight Local Sports Partnerships, selected by Sport Ireland to coordinate & deliver the Active Cities project in Ireland:

Local Sports Partnerships are just one cog…whilst they are responsible for coordinating the project, they are only 1 facilitator of many who need to be involved to make the project a success and our cities active.

Active Cities seek to:

  • Prioritise physical Activity for all.
  • Increase the no. of active spaces through out the city.
  • Make physical activity the social norm – built into people’s home, work & community lives.
  • Provide equal access & opportunity for all to take part.
